Things are really hotting up here at BeerChief.

We’ve saved up our coppers & are now on the verge of agreeing a deal with a professional web development company to really launch with a bang.

In order to get things in shape and put our requirements down on paper, that forced us in to putting together solid, detailed plans, and as a result, we’ve had many more brainwaves and ideas which we believe you guys will love

We’re now looking at a launch date sometime in May / early June. It’s the real deal this time, BeerChief is go.

Myself and Adam will be working overtime to make sure BeerChief succeeds and develops in to the world class site we know it can become.

It promises to be a very exciting summer for us and also a very busy one

Back on Track

It’s been a long time since we last blogged. Too long. We acknowledge that.

Basically, the cash dried up, we got lazy and BeerChief was regrettably brushed under the carpet for a few months.

We’ve always emphasized the fact we would never launch BeerChief until we were happy with it, until we could deliver a ‘world class’ social networking site.

That goal cannot and will not come cheap. The more we research in to it, the more the bills keep adding up and it’s all or nothing now - it starts to get serious once the cash starts to get serious.

We’re just two young guys with limited finances, a bit of flair and drive, and a dream. Give us a blank cheque and we’ll deliver - no question. But blank cheques don’t grow on trees and if they do, you can’t pick them, they are given to you.

We’ve also said we want to do this our way. That means ditching some of the rubbish you guys have to put up with on other social networking sites; unlimited widgets, apps, plugins, unrelated Ads all over the place - it’s becoming advertisers heaven and for us, the users, that generally means user hell.

You won’t see the flash gadgets and gizmo’s on BeerChief - we don’t like them. Things will be kept simple, back to basics. Ok, we may need to display ads to cover costs, but even if BeerChief runs at a loss, we’re prepared to stick it out for as long as possible as we believe in BeerChief.

As things stand, we’re drawing up detailed specs. Very detailed specs. We know exactly what we want and how much it *should* cost. A site like this, with our specs, would cost in the region of €50-€100k to do it professionally. That’s fantasy stuff for us. Needless to say we won’t be going down that route.

So we’ll be scouring the globe in search for the right deal at the right price. Scraping every last cent from behind our couches, adding it to the kitty. All in the name of BeerChief. Once we have that done and dusted, it’s then in to beta mode (testing) and we’ll probably open it up to a select few and gradually let it expand from there.

It’s all a bit like spending an entire day at a pub - you don’t want to start drinking too much, too soon, otherwise you’ll be falling around the place at lunchtime with your bandwidth level exceeding the limits  You want to start off nice and slow, then gradually increase the pace as the day goes on

September Update..

Hey guys, it’s been over a month since we last updated you all on what’s happening..

I get a lot of people asking how BeerChief is coming on.. so much so, i decided to blog about exactly where we’re at

I’ll cut to the chase as usual as be as honest as possible. Adam has been super busy lately with other projects (stuff he’s getting paid to do). Me, well i’ve just started college. So time is scarce nowadays. I know that’s not what anyone wants to hear, but that’s the way it is.

We’re still as passionate as ever about BeerChief and long for the day we can launch it. In order to do that, we need (a) cash and (b) time. We can always make time for BeerChief but we cannot ‘make’ cash, so therefore we’re busy doing other things for other people

BeerChief is a hobby/part time pet project, we’re not funded by anyone but ourselves and our wallets  It will take time and patience, and we’ve shown that up until now, so i’m sure we can hold out a little longer. In the meantime, we’ll try to blog a bit more and keep you guys up to date on everything we do/plan to do.

For anymore info/reading/questions/answers/insults/threats etc.. you can contact me (Sean) through my blog and i’ll also be adding a contact page to this blog shortly..

p.s. be sure to join our new BeerChief group on bebo

Where is BeerChief?

Ok, it’s just about mid-August (13th as i write this).

We said it BeerChief should be ready by now.

It’s not.

Adam was knocked out with sickness and i’ve been away a lot on holidays since the last post. So it’s really only now that we’re both back in action.. that mid-August deadline will come and go and realistically it will be mid-September now at the earliest..

We’ve discussed marketing and advertising and the sort of growth we can expect once we launch and to be honest, we’re fearful things will take off too quickly. We don’t want to be spend our early days messing about with servers and hosts and trying to keep up with growth; for the first few months we’ll want feedback and try to improve BeerChief - that will be our primary concern.

So for that reason, we’ve decided to make BeerChief ‘invite only’. Our first 1000 members will be VIP’s as promised. Each of those VIP’s will receive ‘x’ number of invites and that way we can control growth to a certain degree. It will also make life much better for members as we can listen to them and respond and hopefully build up good relationships.

If we opened it up to the public, there’d simply be too many members and too few of us, so any suggestions or concerns members have would more than likely go un-noticed.

How fast will we have our 1000 members? I can safely say reaching 1000 members won’t be a problem. Judging by the amount of interest in BeerChief we get, our 1000 VIP places should be gone within a week. If you’re not on our mailing list, add your email addresss (on beerchief.com) and you’ll be first to hear about when we’re launching.

I hate waiting, im sure you guys are the same.. i just want BeerChief up and running and to start promoting it, but if we move too quickly and don’t think things through, we’ll regret it down the line..

Launch Day..

We’ve always been careful not to set a launch date for BeerChief mainly because we didn’t want to rush it and have a site full of errors and glitches..

Instead, we’ve taken our time and got the design work perfected, got all of our plans down on paper and now we’re coding it and pulling it all together…

We don’t want to give an exact date just yet, but we hope to have everything up and running by mid-August give or take a couple of weeks

BeerChief taking over the world..

Apart from the work on the site itself, there’s a lot of behind the scenes stuff we work on.

BeerChief.com is our domain name ; the thing you type in to get to BeerChief. But you might be surprised to find out there are literally hundreds of other ‘extensions’.. for example .ie .net .org .co.uk etc…

Well, we’re happy to announce that we have the following domain names registered;

You’ll notice if you click on any of the above, you will be automatically taken to beerchief.com - our main address. The benefits of this are that it helps strengthen our brand and eliminates any possible competition or people trying to make money off the back of BeerChief’s success.

Apart from snapping up domain names, we’ve also been busy on other things, for example making bebo ’skins’. We’ll be making more and trying to perfect them but for now, we’ve come up with this. Feel free to use it on your own bebo page

That skin includes our logo and bouncers and a nice orangey tint.

Design Work Complete

It’s been a while since we’ve blogged, but don’t worry.. things are still moving on - slowly but surely.

We’ve successfully launched 4 different design contests and spent almost $500 on our designs. Here’s a taster of where that cash has gone..

bctaster.JPG

As neither of us are Leonardo Da Vinci’s, we knew we’d have to shell out for quality design work and that’s exactly what we’ve got. So that’s one major hurdle cleared. Next up is coding and adding features. Adam will take care of this but we won’t rule out hiring some coders to help us on our way.

No launch date as of yet, but we can safely say it will be worth it the wait

The t-shirts have arrived!!

Last week, we ordered 2 custom designed BeerChief t-shirts.. we also set up our own beerchief shop

Today, the wait was over and we got our hands on the Official BeerChief T-shirts. Below are some pics.. the print quality is fairly good and i was impressed with how well the colours came up. See for yourself..

Hopefully, we’ll be getting more.. it all depends on BeerChief’s success

Official BeerChief T-shirts…

Well, we’re really get into the whole BeerChief thing now..

With the site design almost complete, it will soon be time to start adding features and coding it all.. It will be a slow, boring, painful process, but it will all be worth it in the end

Although we still have no definite dates (we don’t want to put ourselves under pressure and rush the site), we are preparing to market the site.. and what better way to get the word out, than t-shirts

bcteeshirt.JPG

Above are the official BeerChief T-shirts we’ve got - custom made. We expect to have them next week, so keep an eye out for us, we’ll be the guys with the BeerChief bouncers on our shoulders

We’d love to buy 500 and give them out as freebies, but then again we’d all love to own ferrari’s and mansions  So, for now, we’ve raided our piggybanks and ordered 2  At €31 a pop, they aren’t cheap.. but they do look stunning

We have made a deal with our supplier which allows anyone to purchase the official BeerChief T-Shirt. So if you have a spare €31 ($40) or so, help support BeerChief by buying a t-shirt and spreading the word

One last contest!

Well, as some of you might know, we didn’t get the results we wanted last time around..

That said, we did get one fantastic landing page which will definitely be used in the finished site!

Anyway, this time we have an idea of what we want for the actual site design, but we just want people to tweak it and give it that x factor we don’t have. Up to $100 up for grabs if we like what we see.

Full details here.
